GENERAL RULES

·          All contestants must wear western hats, chaps or chinks, western boots, jeans, and long-sleeved shirts while in the arena.

·       Contestants may tie on or dally at their discretion.  Teams harming or killing stock due to roughness, negligence, or abuse will be held responsible for damages due to stock contractors.

·       Each ranch/team shall designate a captain who is the only team member allowed to confer with the judges on a dispute.

·       Decisions of the judges and producer are final.

·       Any intentional tripping of cattle or undue roughness with stock will result in disqualification of the team.

·       Working positions and stock numbers for all events shall be the result of a draw.

·       Final placing shall be the result of the total accumulation of points earned in all events.

·       Events include trailer loading, branding, sorting, and mugging.

·       No-times, no-shows, and no-rides will receive zero points.

·       Should any teams tie for the final standings, the most first places in all events will break the tie; should a continued tie result, the most second places will break the tie and so on.

SORTING

·     Two minute time limit.

·       Four team members enter arena.  When designated sorter crosses line in the arena time starts.

·       Three members of the team hold the line.   Only designated sorter may enter the herd or be in the herd.  Remaining team members are asked to stay behind the line, but may step across to assist the sorter in making a cut or turning back. 

·       Numbers to sort will be drawn for.  Sorter will sort out all cattle of those numbers.  If stock of another number crosses the line with any part of their body, it will result in a no-time. If team members holding the line enter the herd, it will result in a no time.

MUGGING

·     Four loop – OR – three minute time limit.

·       Four riders enter arena.  Steers will be chute run.  Judge will drop to the flag to indicate time has started and team may ride. 

·       Ropes must be removed from cattle before time is called.

·       Roper must stay on horse.

·       Legal catch is head catch only.  No legs.

·        In the case of illegal catch, roper may discard rope, THEN use second rope – OR – second roper may rope. 

·          Stock must stay tied for 6 seconds. 

BRANDING

  • Team consists of one roper, two muggers on foot, and one brander on foot.   

  • Three loop – OR – three minute time limit on one head.

  • A herd of cattle will be held at one end of the arena behind a line.  When roper crosses the line, judge will start time.

  • Roper must not lope in the herd.  After calf is roped, horse must not break a trot.  Team will receive a no-time if either happens.

  • Muggers must not touch rope or calf until calf is completely across the line.  Team will receive a no-time if either is touched before the calf crosses.

  • After the calf is flanked and the rope is removed, the brander removes the iron from the “fire” , brands the calf on the left hip, and returns the iron to the “fire”.  Judge will drop the flag to end time when the iron is in the “fire”.

  • Catch as catch can. 

TRAILER LOADING

  • Four riders will enter the arena.

  • Two minute time limit.

  • A herd of cattle will be held at one end of the arena.  When rider crosses the line, judge will start the time.  

  • Team will sort out the designated steer or steer(s).   Steer (s) will driven into a parked trailer. 

  • Two horses must be loaded into the trailer and trailer must be road ready with gate and latch closed.

  • All team members will run to the judge’s circle.  Time ends when all members are in the circle.

 EVENT RULES

  •  First fifteen teams to submit entry information and submit entry fills will be entered.

  •  Teams consist of four riders. A fifth rider may be used as an alternate.  Only four  team members will enter the arena and participate in each event.

  •  All teams will receive points for each event.  Points will be awarded in half point increments in reverse order.  For example – first place will earn 10 points, second will earn 9.5 points, etc. 

  • Participants may ride on two teams if they choose.   Teams with duplicate team members must change 2 of the team members.
